Daily Devotions: Revival
From Fire Yourself by Willy Stewart & Theresa Allen
Psalm 51:12 (ESV): “Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.”
King David wrote Psalm 51 as a prayer of repentance after he had committed a horrific moral failure in his life. He had committed adultery with Bathsheba. Then, when David found out she was pregnant, he had her husband killed to cover up his sin. In this psalm David is transparent before God and pleads to Him for revival of the Spirit in his life. Haven’t we all been there? Maybe that is where you are right now. You feel as though you are in a barren desert far away from God. Your soul is parched and you ache for newness of life in your spirit. You need a revival. There are three things that we must do when we find ourselves in this place. First, we need to recognize our sin. Second, we need to repent or turn away from that sin. Third, we need to return to the Lord. He is waiting to breathe on you once again. You do not have to walk through this life feeling hopeless, weighted down, suffocating from the guilt or shame of sin. Instead, you can walk energized, hope-filled, and free from all condemnation … REVIVED!
