Daily Devotions: THE ONE JESUS LOVES

From Fire Yourself by Willy Stewart & Theresa Allen

John 21:20 (ESV): “Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them, the one who had been reclining at table close to him and had said, ‘Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?’”

The Gospel of John is unique from the other three gospel accounts of the life of Christ. The author of this book wrote about the life of Jesus from the perspective that God is love. Everything we see about how Christ interacted with people, how He healed people, and how He shared truth with people revealed His heart. After reading his book, it is easy to see how this disciple was thoroughly convinced that Jesus loved him. So much so, that in his writing, the disciple simply refers to himself as “the one whom Jesus loved.” Some people may take offense and think that John thought way too highly of himself. I disagree. I believe that John genuinely believed Christ. When you and I come to the place where we are convinced of Jesus’ great love for us, then we too will look in the mirror and say with unbridled enthusiasm, “Now there is the one that Jesus loves!”

Jesus loves you today!
